I am an Academic, Digital Learning Developer and Fine Artist. My practice includes research, writing, teaching and artwork. Broadly speaking, my work relates to debates around art, anthropology, ecology and place.

My written research in the field of Visual Culture largely relates to the practice of 20th Century German artist Joseph Beuys and I have published and co-edited a variety of texts on the artist’s work, giving conference papers at institutions in the UK and overseas. My creative practice consists largely of sculptural installation relating to narratives of home, protection and the state of exception and I see this work as another form of research. My visual art practice dialogues with my writing, ongoing research and critical reflection. I am a studio holder at Bath Artists’ Studios.

I hold a PhD in Visual Culture, a MA in Digital Media and a PGDip in Fine Art. I am a Fellow of the RSA and hold Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Teaching is very important to me and I have a range of experience as an educator of theory and practice, teaching into Visual Culture programmes from undergraduate to MA level and into Fine Art at MA level, supervising practice-led PhD students and one PhD student in Art History who completed their studies in 2020.
